Mother's Day Hand Holding

The Creative Journey of Motherhood

May 08, 20251 min read

As Mother’s Day approaches, I’ve been reflecting on the creative, emotional, and ever-evolving journey of motherhood—especially as a solo mum, a creative, and a space-holder for others.

Motherhood has been the most transformative creative process of my life. It’s raw, beautiful, messy, magical—and deeply human. In the early days with Zola, I was in survival mode. Creativity took a back seat. I wish I had reached for it sooner—but I didn’t start creating again until she was about one. When I did, it became a lifeline. A way to reconnect with myself. A soft, safe place to pour out my feelings and process this huge identity shift through colour, texture, and movement.

At Wildflower Creative Space, I see this magic unfold in other mums too. When we take even a few moments to create—without the pressure of perfection—we return to ourselves. We come home.

This Mother’s Day, I want to honour all the ways we mother—with presence, with resilience, with care. Whether you're mothering children, yourself, or others in your life, you deserve to be celebrated.

A Simple Creative Invitation for Mother’s Day:

“Love Letters in Colour”

  • Grab some paper, pastels, or paints.

  • Take a few minutes to create a heart on the page—abstract or literal.

  • Inside the heart, write a message to yourself as a mum (or to your own mum, or maternal figure).

  • What would you say if you could speak with love and no judgment?

  • Let the colours and words hold you.

I see you. I love you. I'm proud of you! A message from me to me.

Wishing you a day filled with gentleness, beauty, and connection—whatever that looks like for you.

With love,
